Tool Review Instant Paper MachePast Reviews: Water Effects Instant Paper Mache (IPM) costs around $5 for a pound and you can buy one or five at a time and comes in grey or white. You mix it with water and it hardens as it air dries and is great for creating texture and rough formations. You can mix the entire pound in a gallon zip-lock bag and keep it in the refrigerator or you can fill a bowl with warm water and soak small amounts at a time. Over time, I have wasted a lot of paper mache by mixing it all at once and it molding when I didn't use it quickly. If you aren't going to use it all within two or three weeks then soak as you go. The consistency is like oatmeal, thick and slimy. You can spread it as thick or thin as you like to make flat or bumpy formations. I DON'T recommend that you put much on cardboard or foamcore because it is waterbased and will warp what you are working on. I tried this with a Cantina that I ended up throwing away because the cardboard couldn't stand the moisture. ![]() ![]() Above is an example of using IPM to give a swamp tree a uniform texture (IPM is grey). ![]() Above is an example of giving plywood a muddy ground texture.
