The arm tools from Star Wars A New Hope were faucet stems from a bathroom or kitchen faucet. If you go the hardware store and look at faucet stems you can see the simularities but good luck on finding the right match. Even if you did they are pretty expensive. It was cheaper to buy from a machinist like Elvis Trooper.
My first set of Armtools were washers. I followed some instructions I found on the web. It looked like crap when I was done. I recently bought a set (3) of machined armtools from Elvis Trooper (above) and they are beautiful. You can also buy resin versions from a number of vendors but they don't compare to their machined counterparts.
