Celebration III - April 21 to 24, 2005

Celebration III was incredible. This was my first Celebration and I regret that I didn't attend the other two. I have heard rumors that there may be a C4 in 2007 but we shall see. Celebration had over 21,000 people registered for the convention and unfortunately they all had to enter through one small set of doors. People were lined all the way around the building every morning just to get in.

To help with crowd control, many members of the 501st volunteered 16 or more hours to make sure lines ran smoothly and people knew where to go. When I joined the group, I had no idea they were so vital to the success of the conventions. A GenCon coordinator was in tears thanking the 501st for helping defuse a few angry attendees. GenCon was understaffed to handle the masses... especially in the store. Some people spent 8 or more hours in the store lines and were really not happy about it.

George Lucas spoke on Saturday morning in his first public appearance in 18 years. He did a Q&A session where a child asked him if the Stormtroopers were the goods guys. George replied "Yes, they are just led by bad people."

Overall Celebration III was an event I won't soon forget. I had the privilege of meeting people I had only known online and made many more friends who share my love for the Star Wars films.

Niub Niub's Diorama Workshop

Jamie with Niub Niub's Death Star Walls.

I showed this picture of Niub Niub's Tantive IV Diorama to a co-worker and, not knowing it was a diorama, he thought the 501st and Rebel Legion were doing a reenactment. He was shocked to find out it was a 3 3/4 scale model.

An example of just how amazing Niub Niub's work is.

Hmm. Where have I seen this model before? The model builder must be VERY talented! :)

This is Niub Niub (black t-shirt) and the other model builders (Eric, Ruf Terrain and Jamie) who created displays for the diorama workshop.

Some of the guys (Shaun and Patt) who help Niub Niub set up and run the diorama workshop... Nice guys for a couple of Canadians.

Costumes

The 501st took a group photo on Sunday.

The weathering on the these clone troopers is excellent.

Caption: "Vader only gets young Luke Skywalker on the weekends."

This Han and Leia duo look really good. I saw another picture of this Han at one of the local pubs. All he needed was a green bounty hunter lying dead across the table to complete the scene.
